Come Hell or High Water Note: Following the pre-Christmas blizzard in the New York Metropolitan area, which includes Long Island, Southern Connecticut, Northern New Jersey and a couple of counties north of Manhattan, many radio stations announced the names of schools closed because of bad road conditions. One New Jersey station was even more thorough--it listed the social and civic functions cancelled or postponed, and added: "All regular meetings of Alcoholics Anonymous will be held as usual." AA as a whole takes a dim view of pride, but AAs in winter weather areas can feel some satisfaction in the singleness of purpose that inspires them to hold meetings and make Twelfth Step calls in the face of snow, sleet and ice that keeps "earth people" huddled at home.
