When the program finally took hold, he found that the Twelve Steps were a day-to-day guide through troubled years "--in all his affairs.

IT began one never-to-be-forgotten day in May of 1959. At the time I didn't recognize it as a beginning; rather it was an end, a soul-sick death which I had to face alone. But this desperate day, this day of death, was also the beginning of a new life. I wasn't aware of it then; I wasn't aware of anything but my own helpless frustration. Only a person who has been alone through such an experience can understand what a torture this kind of living death can be.
