Freedom" in prison

We had our thirteenth anniversary of AA here, and I am very happy and proud to say that I have been as constant a member as God would allow me. Without our program I know that life would have been just as unendurable, perhaps even more so, in here, than it was out on the street, for I carried my own prison with me everywhere I went. Then, suddenly, I learned that we can only live a day at a time. When I realized that my sentence was not for life or death, but merely for twenty-four hours at a time, many things became plain and clear that I could never comprehend before, because I could not see through me.
