AA in African outpost

Thanks to the Fellowship, AA is very much with me even in this remote town in the jungle. The Mission here is 300 miles from the coast by a rough dirt road with the last five miles impossible except by jeep--tropics of course with heavy bush but not real jungle, although it would be hard to tell the difference. There are twenty-seven Americans here (no fellow drunks) including five Episcopal priests and four Sisters of an English order. There is a hospital with 500--1000 patients a week and 500 students from kindergarten to senior high. Some vocational training but the one teacher we need terribly--a mechanic--has yet to appear. A primitive economy, although this is changing because of the road. Two years ago the only way to get to Monrovia on the coast was a twoweek walk!
