Grapevine's Story

Last month, readers will recall, we left off our re-telling of The Grapevine's life history with, as it were, the heroine lashed to the rails and the five-fifteen Wichita Flyer already whistling at the bend. From a news sheet put out as a labor of love by some New York AA writers in 1944, it had grown to a national AA journal with a booming circulation. But disaster was at hand: "The Grapevine had to have fulltime help; this created a mounting deficit." Without aid, the magazine would have to suspend publication.
