The Anecdote Bin
A CLIPPING from the Edmonton Journal reveals that a Bavarian housewife burned down the local brewery in an attempt to get her husband off the suds. This fruitless effort ran to $62,000. Maybe this Bavarian growler addict would be interested in The Temperance Club of Tokyo, Japan, which has introduced a "telephone doctor" for people troubled by alcoholism. According to the Associated Press, a caller has three choices when he phones. He can (1) ask for guidance, (2) listen to a three-minute tape recording on how to overcome excessive drinking, or (3) request immediate help.
