Adjustable AA

On changing the program to nurture the novice

EVERY so often, someone gets excited and wants to change AA. Oh, not in so many words, but that's what it amounts to. It's usually someone who wants so much to help the newcomer that he's willing to reform AA to do it. Only temporarily, of course, just until the newcomer feels comfortable and secure. So he doesn't talk about the spiritual side of the program if the newcomer is shy of that, nor does he mention some of the older slogans if there's a sophisticate on his hands. The only difficulty here is that there may be several newcomers at the meeting, and at this rate he will end up saying nothing at all.
