Indian Charlie

Who was Indian Charlie? By society's standards he wasn't much--just a dishwasher. I guess he was judged by other standards too--a drunk, a wino, a crazy Indian, who on one occasion imagined he was a billy-goat. He tried to prove it by butting a cell door. That cost him quite a few stitches. Yes, the stories of Charlie are many. But Charlie knew one thing. He knew he was alcoholic. He tried and tried and the harder he tried, the harder he fell flat on his face. If persistence is a virtue, Charlie had that virtue. He found out early in his association with AA that it was his only hope.
