In 1952 I returned to the states from Korea as a "buck private" after almost twenty-five years service. I was commissioned (1st It.) during the war, but I couldn't "stand the prosperity." (More pay --more whiskey!) I was reduced back to a master sergeant and, eventually, on down to private. Need I say it was much faster going down than it was up.
