Tension
THOUGH I often had drunken episodes as a medical student, it was not until I started out in private practice that I was faced with a real personal problem. This was tension. I used to get "all tensed up" to an intolerable degree. I had been spoiled as a child, schoolboy and student. The youngest in the family, I found a way around my mother and eldest brother, to get myself out of financial difficulties, so that life had been comparatively simple affair, with plenty of props. Then I paid far too much for a small rural practice and the depression arrived and cut off the financial aid I had come to depend on when I had been in difficulties.
