On Closed Meetings

Some reflections on AA discussion meetings prompted by letters from Grapevine readers

IN last May's Grapevine, R. F. of Southport, Connecticut, wrote (p. 16) that she knew of two kinds of closed meetings, and had sharply divergent opinions of them. R. F. voted for the discussion meeting whose leader limits his opening remarks to twenty minutes or less, leaving plenty of time for 'round-the-table comments. She voted emphatically against the closed meeting which is an hour long monologue by its 'leader.' She felt that this was severe penance for alcoholism.
