When We Won't Surrender

EVERY AA member who is staying sober has had to face the seemingly insurmountable difficulty of the First Step: We admitted we were powerless over alcohol and that our lives had become unmanageable. Many new members are facing it for the first time today. Many alcoholics who are still drinking will face it in the future. Many more will never be able to face it, and will pass on to the shadowy world of insanity, or to the final oblivion of an alcoholic death.
