The Anecdote Bin

Dedicated to the lighter side of our common problem

THIS column wouldn't be complete without a couple of stories about motorcycle cops. An Associated Press clipping, sent in by Thornton D., from somewhere in Massachusetts, recounts the story of a farmer in Collan, Ireland who was hauled into court because his dog was behind the wheel when an Irish gendarme overtook the vehicle on his motorcycle. Although the farmer was steering from the passenger's side of the front seat, he insisted that the dog was not only manipulating the pedals but that the pooch's father had also been a motorist. You can probably guess that, besides being charged with having no license or insurance and driving a defective vehicle, the owner of the dog-chauffeur was found to be partially stoned at the time.
