The Anecdote Bin
HERE'S an unidentified newspaper clipping from "Charlie," of Missouri, which is about as anonymous as you can get. It says that humorist Finley Peter Dunne was a heavy drinker but was able to swear off the stuff from time to time. During one of his brief adventures in abstemiousness a friend asked him how long it took to get over the craving for alcohol. "I can't tell you exactly," said Finley Peter Dunne, "but it's longer than four months, six days, seven hours and fifteen minutes."
