AA does not engage in research in the field of alcoholism, own or operate treatment facilities, attempt to raise funds for the support of research or treatment of alcoholics, or lend its name to any outside program dealing with alcoholics. This traditional stand, designed to focus AA on carrying personal help to the suffering alcoholic while avoiding any kind of professionalism does not, however, keep us from being keenly interested in, indeed proud of, the work being done by others to find out about alcoholism, and to find ways of helping alcoholics. Here is a report highlighting the progress made last year by some 'outside AA' agencies.
