The Jellinek Formula for the Rate of Alcoholism

Here is the story of the famous Jellinek formula for determining the number of alcoholics in the U. S., written by a long-time student of the disease of alcoholism. The author is Research Specialist in Documentation at the Rutgers Center of Alcohol Studies, and Editor of the "Quarterly Journal of Studies on Alcohol," published by the Center. This article is based on a talk given at the 1964 annual meeting of the National Council on Alcoholism.
