AA a status symbol?

Sometimes, I wonder if we have been guilty of trying to make the program of AA so darned attractive, blameless and socially acceptable, that it is becoming a 'status' symbol to be an alcoholic and an AA member. It just seems to me that we become so interested in getting the biggest conferences, the top-notch 'names' as speakers, that we don't have the time to talk to the newcomer who might be asking individually for help. Somehow, I wish that we would forget about the problem of alcoholism and get back more to taking care of the alcoholic. And this does not mean only the brand-new alcoholic, but the one who has been around in AA for a while.
