SPEAKING OF WHICH, hangover clinics have been opened in Helsinki and six other Finnish towns for the purpose of cutting down absenteeism from work. A victim's anonymous visit costs him 90 cents and he is dosed with "pills, soup, juices, tranquilizers and stimulants." (Some of this sounds to us like the hair of the dog.) Tuesday is the biggest day of the week for the clinics. The deputy director of the foundation sponsoring the project believes that weekend drinking often continues into Monday and that, although one day away from work can be explained, Tuesday is the critical "to work or not to work" day.
