The Iron of Humility

A priest reflects on his death-struggle with personal pride. He found a release through AA

THE single most important obstacle to my joining Alcoholics Anonymous was my pride. Now I can see it clearly; daily it becomes clearer. But once I would have rejected out of hand the suggestion, because, as a religious and as a priest, I had had drilled into me over many years that pride was a most dangerous evil in itself and the root usually of disorder and chaos in the kind of life to which I was called.
