IDEAS fascinate me. I am curious, like a cat. You've heard the alcoholic described as "self-will run riot"? Well, I was an intellect run riot. I was the kind of guy who could be so engrossed in reading a book about love that he couldn't see his wife. I was so busy reading books about how I should be loving mankind that I forgot to look close at people. I could intellectualize or, if you like, rationalize anything, literally anything that I did--to look good. I believed in my own reasons. And that was all.
