LATE in the fall of 1934, while in Towns Hospital, New York, under Dr. Silkworth's care, Bill W., AA's co-founder, underwent a transforming spiritual experience. A "hopeless drunk" when he went into the hospital, he left Towns a free man. He has been sober since.
