Carrying the Message

On being tolerant

I returned from the Rhodesian National AA Convention, after having gone six months without seeing any AAs. It was like a breath of fresh air, and I enjoyed so much being back in the swing of things again. I must say that it's amazing how much sameness there is amongst AA people all over the world. The one thing I learned about the importance of AA meetings is the discipline of being loving and "tolerant" of all people and their opinions, after weeks and months of associating only with people of my own choosing. It was a good lesson, one I'm afraid I didn't pass with flying colors. Still, it made me realize where my shortcomings are, and what to work on in the months to come as far as character defects are concerned.
