Letter From a Distraught Enzyme

NOTE: From time to time in various news media there are reports from scientists and doctors who believe they may have tracked down the physical cause of alcoholism. One such article concerned the isolation of an enzyme in the liver whose sole function is to catalyze alcohol. It was suggested that a malfunctioning of this enzyme might well be a contributing factor toward alcoholism. A letter from this enzyme to one of us might go something like this:
