EM EL JAY is the contributor of this month's first two vintage vignettes. The first one concerns a sailor who finally staggered back to his ship three days late and much the worse for wear. Called to account for his numerous misdeeds, the Captain said, "There's no need for you to drink like you do. If you stayed sober, you might become a petty officer, in fact you might even make chief!"
