Carrying the Message

By their fruits. . .

I have been gardening most of the day and, also, shifted three yards of top-soil on my own so am feeling pretty tired. Oh yes! gardening, which I took up less than three years ago, is one of the fruits of sobriety. My garden only contains flowers but it looks a picture and I started from "scratch." Hitherto, I only used a garden to bury "dead marines" (bottles if you know what I mean) and they never grew except in number and became an embarrassment and damned nuisance. I used to fill sugar sacks with bottles, empty of course, and take them down to the sea at night to dump them. That bloke in "Lost Weekend" didn't have the sole rights on the capers we got up to.
