On saying no
Several months ago my wife and I entertained a client and his wife at lunch. This was our first contact of a social nature. They didn't know about my AA membership. I ordered drinks for them and then wine with the lunch. The client's wife caught me completely unaware, halfway through lunch, with: "Are you a teetotaler?" After a long pause (pride and guilt locked in battle?), I mumbled something almost unintelligible such as, "Not today."
