A Stitch and a Step

An alcoholic is like an article donated to a rummage sale--certainly no bargain, yet perhaps of some good to someone. It lies there torn, dirty, practically unrecognizable, destined for ultimate destruction. But look! Someone is picking it up, smoothing it, straightening out the long-set wrinkles, folding it carefully and tucking it away. Then after a seemingly endless journey through the darkness, the article is brought out into warmth and brightness, made clean again, tested for strength, and made whole again by patient, tender stitches--no longer a discarded, useless article.
