How AA Came to Her

AFTER the death of my husband I returned to work in social service as counselor to alcoholic patients in a mental hospital. I made talks at Al-Anon meetings in the city and attended open meetings of AA. I went to work with hang-overs, but never for one minute did I consciously line myself up with the people I was trying to help. They had reached rock bottom; they had lost families, income, friends. I just sometimes managed to overestimate my tolerance for alcohol.
