I Needed Psychiatry Before and After AA

An AA member says<lb A doctor sent him to AA in the first place; and another helped him work the program

IN the meetings I go to we no longer hear many disparaging remarks about "headshrinkers." As a matter of fact, there seems to be growing a mutual respect between AA and the psychiatric profession. By now it is pretty clear to everybody that psychiatry can't do much for a practicing alcoholic who shows up for treatment loaded or with even enough on board to blunt all the sharp edges.
