In this section of the September Grapevine, we quoted the speculation of a correspondent of the Q and A Department of the New York Sunday Times Book Review on the origin of the second meaning of the word "grapevine," the meaning it has as the title of this publication. In the July 2 issue of the Sunday Times, another correspondent had at the subject, and came up with what seems a definitive statement. We print the item in full here.
