The Christopher D. Smithers Foundation has given $1 million to the Alcoholism Committee of the Community Council of Greater New York, the largest single private grant ever made for work in the field of alcoholism. President of the foundation is R. Brinkley Smithers, an advisor on alcoholism to Mayor John V. Lindsay, Governor Nelson Rockefeler and several international committees.
