Salute to AA'S Old-timers

An AA "frozen in newness" tells why length of sobriety seems to him a valuable asset

THIS is being written by a new member of AA who has become frozen in his "newness." After being on the program for a little more than five months, preceded by thirty years of drinking, I had an accident which confined me first to a hospital and now to the second floor of my house. I cannot attend meetings, and I cannot do Twelfth Step work. I cannot take credit for my present sobriety because I cannot get out to a tavern or liquor store, and nobody is likely to bring a bottle to me. I do read AA literature, including the Grapevine, and I do have occasional talks with AA members who come to visit me. But I do not feel that I am working the program. I am not advancing as I would be if I were active.
