God's Will?

Headed for his first AA meeting, he lost his way, The bar's neon glowed invitingly. . .

AFTER an eight-day binge and the customary five-day recovery period in the hospital, I came back to my apartment in Flushing, Long Island, and did what I should have done several years before. I called AA. That afternoon a neat, personable man knocked on my door and introduced himself as Dave R. I was more than ready to hear what he had to say. The First Step started me nodding enthusiastically. If anyone's life had become unmanageable because of alcohol, it was mine. But when he broached the spiritual side of the program, I was silently skeptical. Where was God, or this Higher Power, while I was going from binge to binge and bringing heartache and anxiety to those who loved me? Where was this guiding hand then?
