Durban Celebrates an AA Birthday

A traveler from America reports on nineteen years of AA in South Africa

NINETEEN years ago this last September, a two-line notice in the personal column of the evening paper kicked off AA in Durban, a multiracial city on the Indian Ocean, in South Africa. Five alcoholics attended, and one man walked the three uphill miles to the private home in order, as he said, that he could drink anonymously.
