Four Days Sober. . .Again

She had had a sober year once--ten years ago. But each new morning still challenges, and promises. . .

IT WAS four o'clock in the morning, and I had not danced the whole night through. I was four days sober, and trying to sleep at home, in my father's small apartment. He's eighty-seven. My father began to cry. I suggested, it seemed to me reasonably and gently, that we had better try to get a night's sleep.
