Sober and off Pills Ten Days

She ran from a drunken father into a nightmare of pills and booze. . .and lost her own children. . .

MY NAME is Joyce. I am twenty-six years old, and have been off pills and alcohol for ten days as I write this. My friends and neighbors once would have said I was one of the happiest people in the world. Me, Joyce, with my fingers in everything: Sunday-school teacher, youth director, always smiling, always laughing, the girl everyone loved because she was so lovable.
