Once Over Lightly

IMMATERIA MEDICA: The Philadelphia Evening Bulletin reported recently that the Bonn government has announced that beer is being prescribed in West German hospitals for many diseases--circulatory, heart, gall bladder, kidney, etc. The report doesn't say how much beer or exactly what it is supposed to do for the patient--except maybe help him forget about whatever is wrong with him.
