Divided I Stand

Many a spouse joins AA only to find that the search for sobriety brings new problems in family relations. Here, three members share their experience in making necessary adjustments

THAT'S right. One foot in AA and the other foot in the civilian world. Divided I stand, like thousands of other AAs who are married to nonalcoholics. I have heard glowing reports of Al-Anon, but my husband flatly refused to go to Al-Anon. Also, from the beginning of my AA life, he made it quite clear that he had no intention of sitting home nights with our three cats and the TV set while I gallivanted off to meetings. And he made it equally clear that I was to expect no coddling or pampering just because I was sober.
