Our language is nowhere richer than in its synonyms for "drunk." I once counted the list in Berry and Van den Bark's American Thesaurus of Slang, but gave up after passing the 100 mark and realizing that there were at least twice that many more to go. Now, however, I have a new candidate, worthy of rank beside "canned," "cockeyed," "crocked," "fried," "stewed," "pickled," and "plastered."
