Sense and nonsense on the road to recovery

THE TRAIN RIDE: For some reason, vehicles which take people from A to B seem to be the downfall of many a lush. Cars, of course, are veritable nemeses, and planes are pretty good, too. But the champ is the good old railroad train. There is something magical about the way slushing down hooch and riding along the rails go together. What practicing drunk, in what remains of his right mind, would whiz off in a jet with its two-drink limit, when he can spend four times as long in his own little room on a sleeper, working away on a jug of Old Heaven Help Us, and listening to the rails go clickety-click. But sometimes a viper crawls, into this alcoholic Garden of Eden.
