Once Over Lightly

Sense and nonsense on the road to recovery

FISH STORY: A doctor had a friend with whom he fished frequently and shared a jug just as frequently, if not more so. Early one morning they went fishing, well-equipped with internal medication. After they got ashore, they returned to the doctor's office to enjoy a little more stimulant and to weigh the big flounder they had caught. The weighing took considerably longer than it should have, as that sort of thing always does. By the time they were finished, they were both mellow and the waiting room was full--a fact they were not aware of until, with the friend holding the flounder and the doctor holding the friend, they opened the door between the office and the waiting room. Seeing all the people giving them a somewhat fishy stare, the doctor lost his voice and his mind. "Uh, uh, uh," he stammered, and then blurted to the friend, "If he isn't feeling better by tomorrow, bring him back."
