Our Twenty-fifth Anniversary

On the Grapevine

We were dancing to "Sentimental Journey," "Ac-cent-tchu-ate the Positive," and "Don't Fence Me In." We were whistling (rather than going to the movies to see) "Candy." And we were singing-as well as drinking--"Rum and Coca-Cola." FDR was reelected for an unprecedented fourth term. We knew D-Day and felt we knew our first five-star generals and admirals. Horse racing was banned "for the duration." We read Forever Amber and A Bell for Adano. On the Town was the hit of Broadway; Lifeboat, the hit of the screen.
