While it is true that wine-drinking and the drinking of alcoholic beverages in general have been associated with alcoholics who have cirrhosis of the liver, the disease can- occur as well in moderate drinkers and nondrinkers. There is now ample evidence that cirrhosis is caused particularly by malnutritution, and also by infections, and overexposure to such toxic agents as lead and carbon tetrachloride.
