Memo for the Eve of 1971

It's never too early to start planning for the alcoholic hazards of New Year's Eve, suggests F. A. F. of Bethesda, Md., who reports on the success of the Washington, D.C., alkathon ushering in 1970, the third held by the Metropolis Club. With 11 nearby AA groups sponsoring the meetings, more than 300 people were attracted at various times in this schedule of events: 6:30 PM to midnight, December--31 three open meetings; midnight to 4:30 AM. January 1.--a California-type meeting and two more open meetings; 9:30 AM to 3:00 PM--three open meetings; 6:00 PM to 10:00--two open meetings. (The first time-out was for sleep; the second, for football.) Refreshments and coffee were served throughout.
