The Only Day I Have

Yesterday is gone, and tomorrow will soon be today

RECENTLY, I watched a television program portraying a young woman who had just learned that she had only a few months to live. I found myself thinking how horrible that would be, and I wondered what I would do if I knew that I had only a brief period of life left to me. Then I was struck by the realization that, according to the AA outlook, we do have only one day to live; today is our only day. We don't say this in a morbid way or in a way which underestimates the importance of the past or the future, but simply in a realistic recognition that today is the only day we can live, and that anything we want to do must be done today. Yesterday is gone, and tomorrow will soon be today.
