Sense and nonsense on the road to recovery

DURING the same conflict, an old campaigner wrote to a distillery: "I fought in the Philippines in the Spanish American War, and my regiment was wiped out by cholera. My sons just came home from the Pacific. Before they went, I told them that whiskey was a sure preventative for cholera, and so they drank all the way across the Pacific and back and never got it. How much will you pay me for an endorsement?"
