Would the FDA Frown?

Alcohol, considered essential for mental well-being for a large segment of the population, is a kind of psychotropic drug. If alcohol were produced for the first time today--as a drug requiring the approval of medical authorities--it might not be approved for public use, some experts say, because of its damage to the liver when used in large quantities.
