Sense and nonsense on the road to recovery

FINANCIAL PAGE: It has oft been said that we arrive in AA bankrupt. Many of us mean this figuratively, as in "spiritual bankruptcy." But others mean it quite literally. We know a fellow who, at the time of his arrival on the AA scene, was somewhere over $8,000 in debt and had a wife, six kids, and take-home pay of considerably less than $100 a week. (You might be interested to know that he now has four kids still at home, the same wife, seven years of sobriety, and no debts worth talking about.)
