We're Chipping Away at the Stigma

An opportunity to work as a rehabilitation counselor made it possible for him to contribute more

DURING my third year of sobriety, I began to be increasingly disturbed by the environment we lived in and my helplessness to improve it. Then an opportunity to move out of state and advance in my field presented itself. But now I had a real dilemma: I cherished my sobriety above all. For me, one group of men and women were the heart of the AA program, and to remove myself from them scared me. An extremely wise and beloved friend told me, "God will make your decision for you if you'll let Him." I prayed for knowledge of His will for me, and it worked. Some will ask, "Would you be so grateful if circumstances had prevented your move?" The answer is "Yes," because I became willing to accept His will for me.
