A hard night's duty in a hospital that cares for suffering alcoholics brings deeper understanding and respect

ONCE, I had a terrific resentment toward hospitals that would not take sick and dying alcoholics. Then I took nursing through a state rehabilitation program and went to work in a large hospital. There was a terrific shortage of nurses. My duties at night, on the 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM shift, kept me on my feet and almost running for eight long hours.
